| FORGED Ballistic Rod End
Formerly known as the BILLET Ballistic Rod end, we have released the new and improved FORGED Ballistic Rod end. Why should you care? How about 25% strength increase and nearly a 40% price decrease! Compare that to the competitions billet rod ends.
Benefits of our Forged Rod End vs. our Competitors Billet Rod End:
Production cost - When we start with a billet chunk of 3" 4340, we put close to 1 hr of machine time into it with 6 machine operations. Conversely, we will have approximately 6 minutes of machine time into the pre-shaped, pre-hardened forging.
No long trips to the heat treat plant. We're not taking off a ton of material so we can afford to machine them in the hardened state and send them directly off to be plated.
We're buying 3.14lbs of 4340 instead of 15.1lbs. As previously mentioned, we won't be spending our time whittling the blank down 500% in size, nor paying for that extra material like our competition.
Increased Strength - When machining a billet piece of steel in the shape of a rod end we are cutting across the grain of the material. When a forging is made to near net shape, the grain structure is not effected and additional stress risers are avoided.
Material has been added where it's most important. We've added a large boss around the grease zerk and set screw area to help counteract the stress riser created by drilling and tapping in this area.
