Safety Washers are constructed from 303 Stainless Steel. While leaving room for deflection in the joint, these are designed to prevent the ball from leaving the housing in case of failure in single sheer designs. This is especially important in the steering system as most rod ends are mounted in single sheer and rod-end failure could result in complete loss of steering.
